Willy the Fish

Willy the Fish, photographed straight on

Willy the Fish, 2025. Oil pastel and acrylic pens over a digital image. Framed, 34.5 × 45 cm. Recycled 1960s–70s teak frame · 10% to charity.

William is a fisherman in Jersey that I've known for many years, and he is so full of energy. He's such a man of the sea that he is almost a mythical beast, and I couldn't paint him true to my feelings without making him a mythical beast. And here he is. William.

About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print

The surface catches the light and changes as you move about. A photo can't do that. Get in touch and we'll sort out a visit.
