The deal, in plain words, when you buy from me.
Who you're buying from
You're buying from me, David Gardiner, trading as Sachan, Jersey, Channel Islands. Email sachanarts@gmail.com. Postal address: La Haute Ferme Farmhouse, Jersey.
Originals
Each original is one of a kind. My frames are recycled, mostly from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. They may be faded, scratched or damaged. That's intentional. It's part of the work, and it isn't a fault. If the frame matters to you, ask before you buy and I'll tell you honestly what it looks like.
Prints
Prints are reproductions of my originals, hand-finished by me, so no two are identical. Small differences are the point, not a defect. Prints come unframed.
Prices
Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and are shown on the work or the shop page. Once something is sold it just says "sold". I never publish what anyone paid. Jersey GST applies at the current rate (5%) and is added to the price where required.
Payment
Payment is upfront, in full, and the money has to have cleared before anything leaves my studio. No deposits, no instalments, unless we've agreed something first. If you really want a piece, get in touch and talk to me. I might be open to working something out, but only if we've discussed it and agreed it beforehand. The contract is made when I confirm your order by email.
Delivery
You pay for all transport, both getting the work to you and sending it back if it's returned. Every work has to be paid for in full, with the money cleared, before it leaves my studio.

Any local taxes, import duties or similar charges when the work arrives in your country are your responsibility as the buyer, not mine. I pack everything properly. If it arrives damaged, tell me within 48 hours with photos and I'll sort it out. Damage in the post is different from a frame that was already worn when I sent it. Because my frames are recycled, they carry marks and wear that you can see in the photos on the site. If a mark is in the photos, that's how the frame is meant to look, and it isn't damage. Only new damage that isn't visible in the photos, reported within 48 hours with photos, counts.
Changing your mind
If you buy online, by email or by phone without meeting me, and you're buying as a private person (not for a business), you can cancel within 14 days of receiving the work, no reason needed. Tell me by email, send it back in the same state within 14 days of that, and I'll refund the price within 14 days of getting it back. You pay the return transport, and you're responsible for it arriving safely. This applies to buyers in Jersey too. Commissioned or made-to-order work isn't covered by this cancellation right, as is standard.
If you bought in person, at a show or my studio, there's no automatic cancellation right, but talk to me. Your legal rights if something is genuinely faulty or not as described aren't affected.
Copyright
Copyright in every work stays with me, David Gardiner, whether you buy the original or a print. You own the object, not the right to copy it. Don't reproduce, print or sell images of it without asking me. Sharing a photo of it on your wall with credit to Sachan is fine. I'd love that.
Charity
10% of every sale goes to charity, usually Age Concern, Acorn or CRY Jersey (Care and Relief for the Young).
The law
These terms are governed by the law of Jersey, and the Jersey courts deal with any dispute. If you're a consumer outside Jersey, you keep any protection your own local law gives you, and it applies alongside these terms.
