Welcoming His Excellency, 2025. Materials including oil pastel, acrylic, acrylic pens and dot pen. Framed, 61 × 81.5 cm.

That was an evening quite soon after the elections in Jersey, when we welcomed a new Lieutenant Governor. At the event I saw everybody talking, and I realized the power in Jersey was in that room — in what they were talking about and the atmosphere. I photographed it and manipulated the picture to take people out and move people around, then painted it with peace hanging somewhere in the air.

About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print

The surface catches the light and changes as you move about. A photo can't do that. Get in touch and we'll sort out a visit.
