The King's Head

The King's Head hanging on my wall under a picture light, at true size relative to the wall
On my wall, at its real size.
The King's Head, photographed straight on

The King's Head, 2025. Oil pastel and hand-applied 3D pen plastic, with gold filament in the crown, over a digital painting. Framed, 43 × 53 cm. Recycled frame · 10% to charity.

The King's Head is self-mockery. It's me doing a self-portrait of me trying to be left alone to paint.

About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print

The surface catches the light and changes as you move about. A photo can't do that. Get in touch and we'll sort out a visit.
