Neck Pain 1, 2024. Heavy oil pastel over a digital image. Framed, 24 × 24 cm. Recycled frame · 10% to charity.

Before my neck operation my hands hurt so much I could hardly paint. So I painted the thing that had all my attention: me, in pain. First of three.

About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print
