When I was in Thailand, spending time with people, some started telling me about their relationships — white men with Thai girls, as it happened. All too often I felt I didn't need to know anymore. That's too much detail. And that's why this one has so much detail in it. Part of that is the mockery. I wouldn't normally put quite as much detail in one of my paintings, so this is too much detail, and it's too much detail.
About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print
