Old Friend, 2025. Materials including a digital image with oil pastels. Framed, 62.5 × 75.5 cm. Recycled frame · 10% to charity.

I met a friend I hadn't seen for thirty years. Hearing his story touched me greatly, so much that I took a photograph of him. Because it was a thought that kept coming back to me, I decided to paint it. That was my motivation. I wanted to paint him sympathetically as I saw him, so that's why it looks like this.

About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print

The surface catches the light and changes as you move about. A photo can't do that. Get in touch and we'll sort out a visit.
