Rack and Ruin, 2025. Materials including oil pastels, acrylic pens, acrylic paints and gold metallic paint. Framed, 77.5 × 108 cm. Recycled frame · 10% to charity.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I've spent a lot of my life around them, including at the ashram in India, where everything was vegetarian. People would often say how disgusting meat was, and for all sorts of reasons pork seems to be the meat most people find disgusting. So this is two racks of pork ribs facing each other, like the worst teeth ever. Then I tinged them with gold, because I've always thought gold-capped teeth look fairly horrible too. I don't want to eat that. I don't want to kiss that. It's a bit yucky, but done in pretty colours and gold.

About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print
