I was upset that people may call my work to be not art, essentially to be fake, and I thought I would preempt it by giving them something that said it was fake, and something that they had to examine to find out it was, said it was fake, as, out of my fear of being not described as an artist. The fear is still there, although I found that when I put it on display at an exhibition, when I was showing my works, and people read it and said, it did happen that people looked in and stood back, and people said, what is it? And they said it's fake. As fuck, actually. They said it's fake as fuck. And what does it say? People said, what does it say? And then they go, fake as fuck. And they go, yes, but what does it say? And it was just a play. And I also, by putting my own beard hair into it, people couldn't say that I wasn't putting myself into it. Because literally, some of me is in it. And then lead, because lead is going to last forever. So there's something within, part of me within it that it's stamped on lead that will, is pretty much not going to corrode or anything. So it's a part of me authentically put into lead, and it's fake. So that was the mix-up I was trying to create.

About the frames: my frames are mostly second-hand, rescued from charity shops and sometimes the rubbish pile. Small scratches, scuffs, fading and light damage are intentional: a nod to the past, and to the millions of images people have chosen to display in their homes to communicate who they are. The recycling may show. That's part of what makes each piece an original, and part of the story. Small print
